Answers to the questions shop owners ask in their first week.
What OSHA standards does ShopShield cover?
ShopShield covers the 8 most-cited OSHA standards in body shops and paint facilities: Hazard Communication (1910.1200), Respiratory Protection (1910.134), Personal Protective Equipment (1910.132–138), Flammable Liquids (1910.106), Electrical safety (1910.303), Emergency Action Plans (1910.38), Fire Prevention (1910.39), and EPA 6H (paint-booth VOC emissions). Every written program is pre-built for your shop type — you fill in your location-specific details, ShopShield handles the regulatory language.
How long does it take to get inspector-ready?
Most shop owners are fully set up in under 30 minutes. Enter your shop name, number of employees, and spray-booth details. ShopShield generates your written programs on the spot. You review, sign, and they're done. When an inspector shows up, pull up the app on your phone and hand it over — programs, training logs, and SDS records all in one place.
What is a "written program" and do I really need one?
OSHA requires that any shop using hazardous chemicals — paints, solvents, reducers — maintain written programs documenting how you control those hazards. These include your Hazard Communication plan, Respiratory Protection program, and others depending on your shop. OSHA cites missing or outdated written programs in nearly 60% of body-shop inspections. Yes, you need them, and yes, the fines for missing programs run $15,625+ per violation.
Can I use ShopShield across multiple locations?
Yes. The MSO (Multi-Shop Operator) plan lets you manage up to 10 locations from a single account. Each location gets its own programs, rosters, and training records. You can set company-wide policies that cascade down and override individual shop settings from headquarters.
How does the SDS library work?
Upload your product Safety Data Sheets (SDS) once and ShopShield indexes them. We flag any SDS older than 3 years (OSHA requires current versions). The mobile-friendly viewer lets techs pull up any SDS by scanning a product barcode or searching by name — no more binder hunting when an inspector asks for a specific sheet.
How does training tracking work?
ShopShield tracks annual OSHA training per employee and per role. Assign training modules, record completions, and generate a signed attendance roster. When training is due for renewal, ShopShield alerts you. If an inspector asks "show me your Hazcom training records for last year," you export a PDF in under 60 seconds.
Is my data secure? Who can see my shop's information?
Your data is isolated in its own database partition — no other shop can see your records. We use row-level security enforced at the database layer, not just the application layer. All data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3). ShopShield staff cannot read your SDS records or employee information without an explicit audit trail.
Can I cancel my subscription at any time?
Yes. Cancel anytime from Account Settings → Billing. You keep full access through the end of your paid period. We do not auto-renew without notice, and we do not charge a cancellation fee. After cancellation you can export all your written programs as PDFs so you never lose your compliance history.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover) via Stripe. Annual plans are invoiced up front and save you 2 months vs. monthly billing. We do not currently accept ACH, checks, or purchase orders — contact us if your shop requires a different payment method.
